Running a bursary programme is a team effort that requires input from many departments across the school. Despite this, school departments are time poor and often working in silo, meaning that increasingly, development professionals are drawn into other parts of the bursary campaign, such as marketing and selection, as well as creating partnerships with external organisations.
This can make it difficult to focus wholly on building relationships with donors and ultimately funding the bursary programme, so it’s important to split remits and responsibilities between departments for a smooth operation.
Gaining buy-in from admissions, marketing, and your senior leadership team in order to assist with promoting the programme and assessing applications will help to focus your development team, but it can be tricky!
