International Schools |
First opening its doors in 1995 to just 47 students, Pechersk School International is a not-for-profit leading international school located in Kyiv, Ukraine. By 2021, the school had close to 550 students, serving international and national families in Kyiv, and is the only school in Ukraine to be accredited in three International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes.
On February 24th 2022, however, the school was forced to close its doors following ongoing tensions with Russia. Having just welcomed back students for face-to-face teaching after two years of Covid-19 restrictions, this was a big set-back for PSI. Despite these circumstances, the school showed resilience to the situation at hand, ensuring that it could still offer a world-class education to its students. So, four days after the invasion formally began, the school resumed with online schooling.
Relocating PSI’s campus
In the months following, Pechersk School International received a wealth of support from the international schools’ community. In particular, the American School of Warsaw partnered with PSI to support the temporary relocation of PSI’s Kyiv campus to Warsaw - this allowed 80 PSI students, who had relocated from Ukraine to Poland, to resume face-to-face learning. PSI has also continued with online schooling for its students abroad, and hopes to re-open the Kyiv campus for the 2023-2024 school year.
#PSI4Good campaign
Earlier this month, Pechersk School International launched its PSI for Good (PSI4Good) campaign in order to bring together those individuals and organisations wanting to make an impact. At the heart of this campaign, PSI hopes to continue to provide students with an outstanding education wherever that may be.
The campaign was brought to life in a remarkable 20-minute film, sharing the story of how the community at Pechersk School International has been affected by the war, as well as how the school is forging forward in its mission to bring Pechersk School International home to Kyiv. ToucanTech is proud to have supported PSI with this campaign, designing a campaign platform for the school to share their story with the rest of the world, as well as to collect and process online donations. PSI is in need of global support, most significantly to support the restructuring of the school until it is safe to return back to Kyiv.
All donations make a difference for the future of PSI’s students and families, and ensure that the school continues to provide international education to its students. To make a gift in support of Pechersk School International, click here.
