Celebrating the Class of ‘22

With December marking the end of secondary education for cohort of Year 12 students in Australia, why not celebrate these school leavers to drive successful alumni engagement. Think leavers balls, Class of ‘22 pictures and yearbooks. Leavers balls and dinners are a classic celebration of a year group’s time at school, allowing for students to look back on and commemorate their school years before they move away to university, start a new job or head off on their gap year travels. Recently, Year 12 students from International Grammar School, Sydney marked the end of their formal secondary education with a Graduation Dinner at Le Montage, celebrating together after years of pandemic restrictions.

Yearbooks are another great way to mark this special occasion, allowing students to look back fondly on their school years through a series of images and messages. Consider pairing this alongside a Class of ‘22 Leavers photo, a nostalgic memory of former classmates and peers.

Supporting the Class of ‘22

Leaving school can be a daunting time for many. Consider running mentoring programmes, which will be extremely valuable for young alumni who are taking their first steps into their career or further education. This will support students in building meaningful connections, as well as empowering their personal development. Another important way to support school leavers is to offer meaningful careers advice and guidance. Useful careers guidance and mentoring programmes can be accessed by alumni via a dedicated portal. Additionally, the platform allows members to filter for specific mentors using a range of categories, including by industry, by location and by type of support.

Connecting with the Class of ‘22

One key way to make sure your new alumni become connected with your community is through regular alumni events. These events are a great way to reinvigorate your current alumni network by encouraging interaction between old and new alumni. Churchie will be holding its annual Christmas Lunch for its Old Boys at the end of November. Similarly, Fahan’s upcoming alumni weekend will feature a Garden Party as the main highlight of its alumni get together. Both Churchie and Fahan have used their alumni platforms, powered by ToucanTech, to organise, promote and invite attendees to their upcoming alumni events.

Don't forget that the most successful way of connecting the Class of ‘22 with your alumni community is through an online alumni network. Online networks are an important way for school leavers to connect with and reach out to the wider alumni community, providing the chance for new alumni to network with peers, as well as receive insights from older alumni. Toucan Tech powered platforms also enable members to update their own contact details so that peers and other alumni have access to the most up-to-date details.
