Events return to Australia's school alumni communities

In a post-COVID world, see how these Australian schools are planning events to reconnect with alumni

Physical events during COVID ground to a halt, and school advancement teams quickly adapted to virtual events, finding great success in connecting online while the world was in lockdown. However, now that restrictions are easing in many areas, and the effort for a safe reopening of Australia begins in earnest, schools & institutions have been given the green light to begin planning in-person events again.

Sydney High School Old Boys Union gears up for reunions

With many reunions postponed or held virtually in the last year, Sydney High School Old Boys Union are looking forward to two in-person reunions this year; the first for their class of 1981, celebrating their 40 year anniversary, and the second for their class of 1967, celebrating their 55th anniversary. During lockdown, SHSOBU were still keen to support careers by hosting a virtual talk on a career in medicine, with four alumni working in various fields of medicine sharing their experiences and advice for those looking to follow their paths.

Churchie alumni reunite on the golf course & cricket ground

The ‘Connect & play with the blue and grey’ initiative, created by the Churchie Old Boys Association, encourages alumni to reconnect through sports. As part of this initiative, they have planned a cricket invitational hosted at the Churchie campus, where players are invited to take part in a double wicket tournament, followed by a meal and presentation of prizes. The event is promoted on their alumni website and events can be purchased directly through the platform; they can also be notified of any rescheduling or changes due to COVID through quick emails to attendees or on the event information page.

Fahan School plans an alumni weekend at their school

After postponing their alumni reunion weekends in 2021, Fahan School are hosting a combined reunion weekend for many of their alumni classes to attend. The event will feature a series of alumni v students sports matches, a garden party and a tour of the school. The event will also celebrate the history & impact of boarding at Fahan School before the closure of the boarding house at the end of 2021, as a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with boarding families and hear from former boarding students and staff. The event is promoted via their brand new alumni platform, where they have already shared several photo galleries from previous events.

As many events return to the calendar, it’s important to have a powerful events management system to keep track of attendees, send communications, promote your events & note down preferences. With an all-in-one system for alumni management that enables you to track event activity in a CRM synced up with your donor data, you can demonstrate the impact of your events more effectively.
